25th National Convention in 2007

Soo Yuen Benevolent Association's 25th National Convention was held from November 1, 2007 through November 6, 2007 in the city of Jiangmen(江門市),Guangdong Province, China.

The opening ceremony took place at the Soo Yuen Family School(遡源家塾) in Kaiping City on Nov. 2, approximately 1000 people attended---near 600 members from the States and Calgary, Canada, the rest were local clan members, members from other parts of the world and government officials. The grand opening banquet was held at the 5-star Palace International Hotel (麗宮國際酒店) in JiangMen the same evening.

A mini-tour to the watch-towers (開平碉樓)immediately following the opening lunch. A tour to the "Little Birds Heaven" (小鳥天堂)and the former home of scholar Leung Kai Chiu (梁啟超故居)took place on November 3, followed by three days of meetings of all Soo Yuen delegates.

The Closing Ceremony was held in the evening of November 6 at the aforementioned hotel. The following day all delegates bid farewell to each other. As usual, many of them took advantage of the occasion, and went on tours around the bustling Pearl River Delta region and other parts of China.

For the first time in the Soo Yuen Family School's 160-year history, a Lt. Governor (Brad Owen) of a State of the U.S. attended the obeisance to the ancestors ceremony.
